Have you heard about the top three most popular tribes in Nigeria? If not, they are Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo out of over 370 tribe dominating the country.

Igbo are the ethnic group located at the southeastern part of Nigeria, these areas are called the Igboland and they are the second largest ethnic group in Nigeria.

From research, the Igbo language belongs to the Niger-Congo language family and they are really gifted when it comes to many things.

In this article, I will be listing the top interesting and surprising facts about them.

1. THEY ARE THE MOST BRILLIANT TRIBE IN AFRICA

Even though, technology in Africa have not improved in years due to lack of many things but Igbos are really motivated and making things happen amidst of all crisis.

They are creative and industrious both home and abroad followed by Yoruba. They are the most brilliant immigrates according to USA and their IQ are very high.

Their main technology base/factory is Aba and most of their products are refers to “Aba made” due to its location, they are talented in cloning products from outside countries and it’s way too equal when been compared.

One of their recent achievement is building an electronic tricycle popularly called “Keke napep” which is very helpful in the present situation of Nigeria where there is high cost in petroleum.

Igbos can never be underestimated when it comes to modern technology in Nigeria and outside the country.

2. THEY ARE MOSTLY CHRISTIANS

When talking about religion in igboland or among igbos, most of them are lovers of Christianity.

They believe that they were created in the image of someone who loves them a lot, in other to distinguish him from other small gods he is called Chukwu which means “the greatest or the most high” and to crown it all he is called Chukwu Abiama which means “the Creator of everything”.

They are mostly Roman Catholics or Anglicans.

However, thoughts and belief are not the same which makes some of the serve other small gods, they believe in mystery spirits like god of forests and rivers.

3. THEY ARE HIGHLY FASHIONABLE

Igbos also make up the top fashionable tribe in Nigeria, their fashion style is unique among over 370 tribes in Nigeria, they look extremely beautiful and handsome when they rock their native attires.
They are unique and easily recognized when their men put on isiagu (dansiki look alike with regular patterns of a shape) top with black trousers or sometimes wrapper styling it up with their hat (Okpu agu), fashioned walking stick and nice pair of shoes and their women look gorgeous when blouse which is sewn of lace or Ankara fabrics combines with properly settled Ichafu headtie whose color/pattern matched with the wrapper fabrics and traditional bread necklace or gold chain rounded up with modern hand bag.

4. THEY ARE MOSTLY ENTREPRENEUR OR INTO BUSINESS

Most Igbos are into business or entrepreneurship, they don’t believe in white collar jobs, they always love to make more and more money on their own and they have the qualities to do that, they are discipline, independence, have the talent of balancing equality between work, family and rest, calmness, ability to attract customers and more.

There mostly based in Lagos for their business and go back to their various state for holiday or vacations, if a business fails, they always have the ability to learn not to make such mistake again.

They always see something good in everything around them and that is why most of them are successful entrepreneur and business man.

5. FAMILY LIFESTYLE

Since Igbos are mostly successful, they marry more than one wife, their family is made up of the wives and their children. The wives are comfortable with each other because there is more than enough for them and their children.

They are accommodating and well behaved.

6. THEY ARE GOOD IN PREPARING AFRICA DISHES

Igbos are extremely good when it comes to handling spoon in the kitchen, they really love yam a lot and it’s one of their stable food in their area. But now, it’s been replaces by rice especially in ceremonial occasions like wedding, naming ceremony and more.

They love swallow or starchy foods with either soup, stew and vegetable.

7. THEY ARE NATURAL ENTERTAINERS

Looking at the Nigeria entertainment industries today, from music to comedy to Nollywood movies, there are good number of Igbos in every area of entertainment in Nigeria.

Musicians like Patoranking, Duncan Mighty, P Square (Mr. P and Rude boy), Phyno and more are top musician not in Nigeria alone but Africa and beyond.

Comedians like I go die, Godons, Basket mouth, Whale mouth, Akpororo and more are top comedians in Nigeria and they are really making it big in the industry.

Nollywood Actors and Actresses like Mercy Johnson, Tonto Dikeh, Mike Ike and more are top nollywood icons.

Igbos are talented when it comes to entertaining guests.

8. THEY ENGAGE IS SPORTS

It quite obvious that Super Eagle players have more than 60% Igbos, they are physically fit and smart when it comes to sports, not only in football alone but in other sports like racing, boxing, high jump, long jump and more.
