Meet the Africa’s Oldest Prisoner and why he is still in jail

The africa’s oldest prisoner Pa Celestine Egbunuche who clock 100 on Saturday August 4 has spent over 17 years in Enugu maximum prison.

The Africa’s oldest Prisoner hail from Akokwa in Ideato North Local Government, Imo State was reportedly engaged in a fight with his family members over some plots of land but unfortunately for them one of their counterpart died which sent him and his family to prison.

Global Society of Anti-corruption (GSAC) a non-governmental organisation heard about the sad news and intervene by appealing to the Federal Government and the Governor of the state, Rochas Okorocha for the release of the old man and his relatives.

Report from the Global Society for Anti-corruption, The prisoner has being suffering from diebetes over the years spent in the prison without proper care which might lead to his death if proper care is not taken.


Enugu state Governor from reports do not grant amnesty to any of the prisoners in his state which other states in the country do during national occasions like democracy and independent day which if he does the old man might be lucky to have been released.
